Thursday March 1st 1400hrs.
We received a request for assistance from NEAS (North east Ambulance Service) with an elderly patient Skelton who had fallen and needed hospital treatment.
Due to the appalling weather conditions a normal ambulance couldn’t reach his house so we were called.
Our on loan Discovery from LandRover was nearby and reached the man quite quickly. The crew assessed the situation and opted to transport the man to James Cook University Hospital in the Discovery whilst the rest of us thankfully stood down.

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

UPDATED 1ST APRIL - EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER AND GROUND CONDITIONS. We're going to the races! We will be at Redcar Racing for tomorrow's Easter Monday Family Day. Team members will have collection buckets at the exit points. Alongside the Horse-racing there's lots of family entertainment including bouncy castles, play ground, face painting and the Easter Bunny and friends will be entertaining kids with traditional games. THE 'HERBERT PROTOCOL' From time to time we are deployed by the Police to search for vulnerable people. Obviously, it is very worrying when a loved one or friend goes missing or doesn’t return home when expected, especially so for people living with or caring for someone with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme aimed primarily at those who care for vulnerable people of all ages who, because of their vulnerability, may go missing. The initiative is named after George Herbert, a Second World War veteran of the Normandy landings, who lived with Dementia and sadly died when he went missing whilst apparently on his way to his childhood home. The hub of the initiative is the “Life History Questionnaire”. This is a paper record containing a range of background information about the person cared for. It should be retained in a safe place so that it can be handed to police and search teams in the event that the person goes missing. It saves valuable time by having a lot of the crucial information to hand rather than trying to piece it together at a stressful time. WHALEBONES WALK 2024 - OPEN FOR ENTRIES The Team's annual Whalebones Walk will take place on Sunday 5th May 2024 and is now open for entries! Starting at the Whitby Whalebones - entrants walk (or run!) for 22-miles along stunning coastal paths finishing at Errington Primary School, Marske-by-the-Sea where refreshments will be available. Team members will be providing support along the way. Children are welcome but under-18s must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them on the day. Dogs also welcome but not on the coach (see below). It is a long walk so please make sure that you, any accompanying children and/or dogs are able to cover that distance. Also, bear in mind - the route follows cliff-top paths along the Cleveland Way and passes through some farmland so please keep dogs on leads. Coach transport is available if required, departing from Errington Primary School (leaves 0800 hours prompt) to the start-point at Whitby (for 0845-0900 hours). Full details will be sent to participants nearer the time. All profit from entry fees will go towards meeting our annual running costs. Sponsorship is not a requirement but please consider it, as it is a great way to boost funds from the event. Unfortunately due to the overnight rain with more forecast, today's event at Redcar Racing has been cancelled so we will not be there! Statement from the racecourse:

Unfortunately today’s Easter Monday race meeting has been abandoned.

We are bitterly disappointed that racing is not able to go ahead but there is little that can be done given the amount of recent rainfall this morning.
