The team’s first weekend practice of 2026, took place around Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge extending towards Westerdale on Saturday 24th January.. This year the weather was kind, mist in the morning, no rain and no biting wind. The practice was a search and rescue scenario , involving for the first time the team’s trainee search dog, Lady,
The exercise was to find and appropriately treat 2 casualties, who were located approx 4.5 km apart.One in the vicinity of High Blakey Moor and the other in a dale of Westerdale Moor. The first casualty was located by Lady with a party of 4 people not far behind.A short time later, the other person was located on High Blakey Moor. Both casualties were transported back in a Land Rover to Lion Inn.
29 team members were out including two support team members , Kath and Lorna who were the casualties for the day. The six prospective members who moved to probationary status at the beginning of the year were all involved.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
