Team to be featured on BBC TV

After a busy few days for the Team there will be an opportunity to ’see us on TV’ on Monday, when a rescue call from 2022 will be featured on the BBC’s ‘Close Calls on Camera’ programme hosted by Nick Knowles (BBC 1).

Almost a year ago, we dealt with one of our most awkward rescue extractions in recent years. A man had fallen down a steep embankment near Lealholm and sustained multiple injuries. It proved to be a big team effort also involving the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, the Great North Air Ambulance and a Coastguard helicopter crew and culminating in a tricky stretcher-carry on difficult terrain.

The TV production team filmed with us earlier this year, conducting an interview at our Base. A number of other people involved in the rescue will also be on the programme, which is scheduled to be broadcast at 10am on Monday 3rd July; it will be available on iPlayer afterwards. Just to emphasise the role that mountain rescue teams play, our colleagues from Ogden Valley MRT have already been featured in the series, dealing with a fallen climber.

Join the team

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
