Masons Donation for new clothing

When Pat Palmer took over the leadership of his masonic lodge in Saltburn last year, he wanted to find a local charity or organisation that could benefit from his fundraising efforts during his year of office. Pat was aware that Cleveland MRT had been asking for donations towards some waterproof clothing for our search & rescue members, so he contacted the Team to ask if he could help with that. Although we had by then been able to equip our existing members, we mentioned to Pat that when last year’s recruits became full members (which happened in early 2023) we would need to purchase another set of clothing for them.

So Pat’s Handyside Lodge set themselves a target of £1,350 to provide three sets of clothing, which they achieved. That was later topped up by two additional grants; one from the masonic regional charity, the Freemasons Charity of Yorkshire North and East Ridings (£450) and another from the Masonic Charitable Foundation (£900).

In February, a cheque for £2,700 was presented to the Team at our Base, enabling us to place an order for up to six new sets of clothing for the benefit of new search and rescue members. The new Helly Hansen clothing has proved to be a tremendous benefit to our members and now our latest intake can also benefit in the same way. We would like to say a special thank you to Pat Palmer for considering us as his nominated charity and for inspiring all of these fundraising efforts through his local lodge plus the regional and national Masons organisations.
