Ian Rowan’s ‘Ultra’ Fundraiser

Last year Ian Rowan raised over £2,500 for Cleveland MRT (including match-funding from his employer’s Johnson Matthey) by running the London Marathon. Not content with that, he has set himself a bigger challenge in support of the Team this year by planning to run the 100-Km Thames Path Ultra.

Ian has set up a Just Giving page so please consider donating that way or spread the word by sharing the link. Once again his employers will be match-funding donations up to £1,000. Many, many thanks to them and of course to Ian.

This sort of fundraising (and donations in general) really do make a big difference – as we often say, without them we would not be able to maintain our search & rescue capability. We’ve had a busy month with six call-outs so far and most people will be aware that our last two call-outs were to fatalities. For the tragic incident on Wednesday where young Leah lost her life, we had to deploy most of our Technical Rope Rescue kit to safely secure our Team members. All of that equipment costs a lot to purchase, maintain and renew (and the same applies to a whole host of equipment, medical supplies, vehicles, clothing and so on). Any monies raised via Ian’s mammoth challenge or donated in any other ways will as always be put to very good use, albeit for very sad purposes on occasions.
