In late summer last year, the team were called to assist with the rescue of an individual, Elliot Metcalfe, who had an incident with a quad bike in a remote location towards the top Westerdale. Elliot had severely damage his spine and required major surgery to pin it back together.
He has made incredible progress in his rehabilitation, allowing him to run the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May with the team his nominated charity.
Earlier this week, at The Lion Inn on Blakely Ridge a number of the team met up with Elliot and others of North York Moors Moorland Organisation (NYMMO) for a cheque presentation. As an appreciation of the work done by the team to rescue Elliot , the extremely generous amount of ยฃ4.7K was given to the team. An identical amount was also given to Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA), who also provided assistance that day.
Thank you all at NYMMO.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
