SUNDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2022 (1926 HOURS)
We were called by North Yorkshire Police following a report of a hang-glider possibly having been in difficulty in the Wain Stones area, south of Great Broughton.
Our call-out officer spoke to the person who had originally reported his concerns to the Police and, following that, we undertook a limited deployment using a Team Land Rover and four members. They first visited the caller and then made checks of the potential landing area and also spoke to a few people who reported that they had earlier seen para-gliders in the area but none in difficulty. After checking out various tracks and vantage points nothing untoward was found and no other reports were received so the Police were informed accordingly.
Four Team members and our call-out officer were directly involved for approximately 3-hours, with a further 21 members on standby during that time.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
