WEDNESDAY 3RD JULY 2024
Called out late at night by North Yorkshire Police to search for a vulnerable missing person who was thought to be possibly in the Square Corner area, near Osmotherley.
After searching various areas as requested by the Police we were stood-down for the night at 0235 hours, with an expectation that the search would resume later in the day. However, we received a subsequent update from the Police that the person had been located safe and well, so no further deployment was necessary.
Difficult search conditions in the dark, considering the terrain and lots of chest high bracken etc. and particularly cold for the time of year. Twenty Cleveland MRT personnel were involved for approximately 5.25-hours by the time we returned to our Base and homes etc.
Many thanks to Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England (North east) who provided one dog & handler from Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team with more provisionally arranged for during the day if they had been needed.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
