FRIDAY 4TH JUNE 2021 (0028HOURS)
Just a few hours after our Team members had returned home from an evening rescue call-out to Roseberry Topping (35/2021) some of them were called out again overnight when we were contacted after midnight by North Yorkshire Police requesting our assistance to search for a man who was missing in the Glaisdale area.
An RV-point was established at Glaisdale railway station using our Incident Control vehicle. A Team Land Rover was also deployed. Team members were split into search parties and commenced searches of woodlands either side of a riverbank whilst police officers searched other areas and continued their enquiries.
Shortly after 0300 hours we were advised by the police that they had traced the man safe and well. We were then able to pack away our equipment, stand-down and return home.
Twelve Team members were involved supported by our call-out officer who co-ordinated the response to the incident, which lasted for approximately 3-hours (plus another hour or so to return to homes and our Base).
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
