Search at Tom Smith’s Cross

We were asked by North Yorkshire Police to assist with the search for a 57 year old Kilburn man who had been reported missing at 1700 and who’s car was found near woodland at Tom Smith’s Cross on the A170. The police were concerned for his welfare and hence asked for our help in finding him.

19 team members, along with 20 from Scarborough and Ryedale MRT carried out an intensive search of the woodland surrounding the car lasting 4 hours. We were assisted by three highly trained search dogs (from our team,Teesdale MRT and Swaledale MRT).

The search was stood down at 0230 with a view to restarting in daylight. The man was located outside our search area to around 0330.
