Tan Hill search for Cleveland Search dog Bonnie and handler Dean. Sunday 8th January. Dean and Bonnie were called out at 0820 on Sunday morning to assist our sister team Swaledale MRT with the search for a missing 22 year old man who went missing in the early hours of the morning whilst camping at the pub. (Tan Hill Inn is the highest pub in England).
Rescue teams from Teesdale and Kirkby Stephen were also involved in the search along with search dogs from Swaledale MRT, North of Tyne MRT and North Yorkshire Police. Handler Dean described the area they were searching as very difficult, very boggy and lots of hollows. The missing man was found by one of the Swaledale search teams at around noon……4 miles from the pub. A good result and the second search of the year for the North Eastern search dogs.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
