FRIDAY 13TH AUGUST 2021 (1355 HOURS)
We were contacted by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist them with a woman who had fallen whilst out walking near Wethercote Farm in Bilsdale, north-east of Hawnby. One of our Land Rover’s was deployed and other Team members were asked to attend an RV-point on the farm.
After treatment for a potentially significant hip / upper-leg injury the casualty was lifted onto a mountain rescue stretcher and securely ‘packaged’ in a protective vacuum mattress. We then carried her approximately 200-metres across farmland to a farm track where she was transferred to a waiting ambulance for further treatment in hospital. We wish her well for her recovery.
Many thanks to everyone at Wethercote Farm for their help, including access to the area.
Ten Team members were directly involved in the incident with four others on standby close to the scene and one other person remotely co-ordinating the response. We were deployed for approximately 1.5 hours plus return travel time back to our Base, homes and workplaces.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
