SUNDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2024 (1110 HOURS)
Following a quiet couple of weeks, we received a call from North Yorkshire Police regarding an injured mountain biker in Silton Forest, south of Osmotherley.
One of our Land Rover crews was already deployed in the south of our area (on a fundraising event with the Thirsk Young Farmers Tractor Run), so was ideally placed to relocate direct to the scene. Another group was in the Swaledale MRT area on a joint water training event but were able to head towards the call-out, whilst others arrived from around our area, bringing with them the second Land Rover.
Having been assessed by one of our Casualty Carers the mountain biker although injured was well enough to be transported in a Land Rover to an RV-point at Square Corner. There he was handed over into the care of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for further assessment and treatment as necessary. We wish him well for his recovery.
Many thanks to his two companions – one of whom stayed with him, whilst the other moved to get a better phone signal when our call-out officer contacted him to advise that help was on the way.
Twenty-three Cleveland MRT members were involved for just under 2-hours before they headed home, or back to the tractor run or (for our water team) back up to Swaledale hopefully in time to squeeze into their dry suits for the afternoon.

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
