SATURDAY 9TH DECEMBER 2023 (1402 HOURS)
North Yorkshire Police informed us that a walker had contacted them saying she was feeling unwell and had become disorientated whilst walking on the Cleveland Way near Kepwick Bank Top. Various Team members were dispatched taking two Team Land Rovers and some personal vehicles. Our Call-out Officer spoke to the woman who by then was feeling better and reasonably okay but unable to make any progress especially on the incline sections of the route. She appeared to be well equipped in terms of waterproof clothing for the conditions although getting cold and was advised to remain where she was.
Whilst both Land Rovers were sent to her location, approaching from different directions along the Cleveland Way, some Team members who live closest reached her first using their own vehicles and were able to confirm that she was safe and well. By then she well enough to be transported in one of the Rovers back to her car at Square Corner.
In addition to ten Team members who arrived at the RV, six others were involved or en route when stood-down. The incident had lasted approximately 2.5-hours hours by the time the vehicles returned to Base.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
