SUNDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2021 (1749 HOURS)
The Team was contacted by the North East Ambulance Service with a request to assist ambulance crews attending a report of a man who had sustained potentially serious injuries after falling from a motorcycle in Eston Hills.
Two Team Land Rovers and a number of our members were dispatched to the area and met up with paramedics treating the casualty. Once they were ready, we lifted him onto a specialist mountain rescue stretcher, secured him within a vacuum mattress and then carried him approximately 500-metres down to a waiting ambulance. The ‘carry-out’ was quite awkward due to the terrain underfoot and hedgerows either side plus, being a warm evening, wearing our COVID PPE made it hot and uncomfortable work.
He was then transferred to the ambulance for onward transport to James Cook Hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.
Twenty Team members were involved with a further one remotely co-ordinating our response to the incident which lasted just over two-hours plus return travel and vehicle / equipment decontamination time.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
