Saturday 16th May (1235hrs)
Team members on stage 4 at Boltby Bash were informed of an injured mountain bike rider who was unable to move following a fall. The personnel at stage 4 deployed to the casualty site near the top of the stage with appropriate medical kit.
Following a medical assessment, the person had a shoulder injury and required strong analgesics to relieve the pain.
Due to the location , the person was evacuated on the mountain rescue stretcher down a steep slope using a back up rope to a nearby track . On the track the stretcher wheel was attached, allowing the stretcher to be wheeled down to the local farm yard.
Due to no estimated time of arrival for the road ambulance, a Land Rover was stripped out to allow the stretcher to be loaded into the vehicle and transferred to the medical tent on the event field. Not long after the casualty was in the medical tent the ambulance arrived.
We hope the casualty makes a speedy recovery and is back on the bike again. Thanks to his colleagues for their assistance in transferring the stretcher down to the track.
The team were involved for approx 3 hours
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

Monday 25th May (0000hrs)
The team were contacted by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to provide assistance with the search for a vulnerable person who was possibly in the coastal area between Staithes and Runswick Bay. The team deployed both Land Rovers and the Control vehicle to Runswick Bay bank top car park with other members in their own vehicles. The first members at RV were quickly deployed to do a hasty search of Runswick Bay area with personnel from HM Coastguard. Another party were tasked to search the Cleveland Way from Runswick Bay towards Staithes. The team were also preparing the drone for its first operational flight when we were informed that the Police helicopter (NPAS) would be on scene.
As the team were deploying a further party to Port Mulgrave in a Land Rover, information came from NPAS that a heat source had been detected on the Cleveland Way. The four person party on the Cleveland Way were soon on scene to confirm they had found the person. The Land Rover was redeployed to get as close as possible to the find site .The required kit from the Rover was walked approximately 400m to the site. The person was assessed and treated by the team ,then they were loaded onto the stretcher in the casualty bag and wheeled back to the Rover with assistance from HM Coastguard and NYP . The stretcher was loaded into the stripped out Rover and transferred approximately 850m to the waiting ambulance in Hinderwell.

This incident was a great example of multiple agencies working together to achieve the best possible outcome, finding the person alive.
