We were asked by Yorkshire Ambulance service to assist their personnel, along with a doctor and paramedics from the Great North Air Ambulance, with a 60 year old mountain biker who had collapsed whilst riding with friends on a moorland track near the village of Ainthorpe.
As many of the team were already at our base for one of our regular Wednesday night training sessions we could quickly crew and deploy our landrover ambulances to the scene.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical personnel on scene the man couldn’t be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Twelve of our team were directly involved with the incident with many more on standby.
Our thought are with the man’s friends and family.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.Join Now
