SUNDAY 16TH MAY 2021
This was our second call-out of the weekend and came just hours after some of the Team had spent the morning and early afternoon on water and flood rescue training. We were contacted at 1608 hours by the North East Ambulance Service requesting our assistance with a report of an 11-year-old boy with a back injury after having come off a bike on land just west of the A19, on the outskirts of Norton.
Team members were called out from home and two Team Land Rovers were also deployed. A Great North Air Ambulance helicopter was also sent and fortunately they soon reached the boy and transported him to hospital. We would like to send him and his family our best wishes.
Although some of the twenty-three Team members who were available had arrived at the scene we were able to stand down and leave the boy in the good hands of NEAS and GNAAS. The incident lasted just under one hour plus return travel time to our Base and homes.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.Join Now
