SUNDAY 26TH MARCH 2023 (1125 HOURS)
The Team was deployed at the request of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to go to the aid of a horse rider who had been injured after her horse had sadly collapsed and died whilst being ridden in the Hawnby area. A Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter was en route.
One of our members who was relatively close-by soon met up with the air ambulance crew who were treating the casualty for a lower leg injury. Initial plans were for us to carry her by stretcher to a waiting road ambulance but she managed to get into an off-road vehicle that transported her to the ambulance. We wish her well for her recovery and our thoughts are with the owners of the horse and those present at what would have been an upsetting time for all concerned.
Sixteen Team members were involved or en route when stood-down from the incident, which lasted for approximately 1.25-hours plus return travel time back to our Base and homes.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
