Building on the success of the previous 4-Tops event, the format will be different this year. The walk (or run if you prefer) starts and finishes at Guisborough Rugby Club, following the tracks and trails of Guisborough Woods to the top of Highcliff. There will be only route this year and it is much shorter (approx 4-miles, 300’m ascent) and is hoped to be accessible to all ages. There will be a range of activities along the route to keep the little ones entertained and motivated to get to ‘the top’!.
If you have previously enjoyed running our ‘4-Tops’ event, we hope you will still join us for this shorter route as there is still plenty of elevation to challenge you! There will not be a longer route.
Throughout the day there will also be a ‘fun day’ at the Rugby Club with various games, entertainment and refreshments for everyone to enjoy whilst cheering on the participants at the finish line. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the activities at the Rugby Club, not just walk participants. For those remaining at the Club, there will be no fee to enter the ‘fun day’ but some activities may have a small charge.
The event will be supported by Team members at various check-points with route markings at other locations. Route maps and GPX-files will be available to download.
Please note that parking is not permitted at the Rugby Club for this event, parking can be found just a short walk away in the nearby Fountain Street Car Park. The Rugby Club offers a fully licensed bar open from midday in the club function room (no muddy shoes etc!).
To take part in the walk there is a small entry fee of £10 per party (max 2 adults and up to 3 children under 16). Children under 16 must be accompanied by at least 1 adult per party. When purchasing tickets please ensure you enter the names of all participants. If you wish to enter more than 2 adults or more than 3 children then please make two separate entries.
Dogs on leads are welcome – please make sure that they and any children are capable of manging the distances involved.
Entries will close at 12:00 on Saturday 7th September 2024. There will be no entries on the day. It is anticipated that registration at the Rugby Club will be from 09:00 hours with a start-time of 10:00-10:30 hours. Cut-off time for all entrants to be back at the finish – 16:00 hours. Details to be confirmed after entries close.
A key element of this event is to raise funds for the Team. As such we would ask all entrants to support the Team by raising additional funds via sponsorship (a suitable form is available to download below).
Our weekly training session last night saw us taking place in a multi-agency search & rescue scenario at South Gare, Redcar, working alongside our colleagues from Redcar Coastguard Rescue Team and British Red Cross.
The search was for six missing people who had been attending a rave in the area but were now unaccounted for and possibly in need of help. Working in mixed search parties of Coastguard and MRT personnel the missing people were eventually all located, scattered around the area, before being treated for a range of injuries and conditions.
Once safely back at the joint control point, based at our Incident Control vehicle, the casualties were well looked after by members from the British Red Cross. And many thanks to them for the very welcome hot drinks as the exercise came to a close, before a debrief and home!
Lots of good experience and an exchange of ideas on the night. Great to be out and about with our partner organisations doing something a bit different, in an area that was an new search venue for many of us.
Many thanks also to our ‘casualties’ for playing their parts!
