On Sunday, 16th March 2025, a small contingent of Cleveland Mountain Rescue personnel were invited to take one of our Land Rovers to Staithes RNLI station so that we could do a ‘show and tell’ to share each others’ expertise. We split into groups and were shown the station, rescue boat and our Land Rover. We demonstrated each others’ rescue equipment and shared how each team operated. This included Governance, call-out procedure and medical capabilities. Although there are some obvious differences in operation (i.e. land and sea!), there were a lot of similarities, which was reassuring.
We would like to pass on our sincere thanks to Staithes RNLI for their hospitality, openness and opportunity to share ideas. It is hoped that a return session can be organised in the near future
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.

WEDNESDAY EVENING - TRAINING EVENING
This week’s training was at Errington Woods near Marske.
The evening was in two parts. Part one was to become familiar with the mountain bike trails in the woods and identify potential extraction routes, including one for air ambulance support. The other part was around casualty handling with the emphasis on head and spinal injuries.
Errington Woods has been a location where we have attended to a number of mountain bike accidents over the past few years. A relevant session for the location.
