Rescue – Saltburn Hazel Grove Woods

CALL-OUT NO. 10

WEDNESDAY 12TH MARCH (0215 hours)

We were contacted by Cleveland Police to provide assistance with the extraction of a female who had an upper limb injury, was cold and unable to self rescue in Saltburn Hazel Grove Woods.

The team deployed two Land Rovers along with a number of Team members to the east side of Marske. Two members from the local area made their way to the casualty location to liaise with the Police. The required equipment was carried approx. 1 km to the casualty site.

The casualty location was at the top of a steep, slippery bank above the footpath, requiring a back up rope system to be employed.

The person was transferred to a casualty bag ,placed on the rescue stretcher and lowered with the back up rope to the footpath. The wheel was installed on the stretcher and taken to the waiting ambulance at Hazelgrove Park Caravan Park,a distance of approx. 400m.

The rope system was also used as a hand rail to assist the Police officers and team members with equipment back to the footpath.

Seventeen Cleveland MRT members were involved for approximately 4 hours. Most members went back home for some rest but some went straight to work.
