Rescue – Cleveland Way at Kirby Hill

FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2024 (1427 HOURS)

Called out by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to attend to a man who was reportedly unwell and unable to continue his walk along the Cleveland Way at Kirby Hill between Lordstones and Wainstones.

Four Team members were deployed from our Base in a Team Land Rover, whilst a number of others made their own way to an RV-point on a nearby farm. Whilst they were en route we made phone contact with the casualty’s wife to confirm the location and to check on his condition. Many thanks to the two passing walkers who had stopped to help the couple.

One of our Team members (who is a Mountain Rescue Casualty Carer) happened to be walking the Cleveland Way with his son and they made their way to the casualty. After making an assessment of the man’s condition, our colleague was soon joined by other Team members who brought with them a rescue stretcher and other equipment including a nice warm Casualty Bag, as by then the gentleman was feeling rather cold. He was subsequently carried on the stretcher for about 400-metres down to our Land Rover and ferried in that to the farm. He was then transferred to a waiting ambulance for further assessment and treatment as necessary. We wish him well for his recovery.

Many thanks again to everyone at Beak Hills Farm for, as often, letting us use the farm as an RV-point and for onwards access to the Cleveland Way. Fourteen Cleveland MRT members were involved for approximately 2.5-hours.
