THURSDAY 8TH AUGUST 2024 (1547 HOURS)
Whilst Call-out 34/2024 was still on-going we received another call from North Yorkshire Police about two men reportedly stuck in boggy ground on moorland south of Hutton Village, Guisborough. North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service were already en route.
One Team Land Rover and some personnel were re-deployed from the earlier search together with others who had since become available were sent to an RV-point at Christmas Tree Carpark near Hutton Village.
Fire service personnel had managed to reach the two men who had become disorientated in very sticky mud. The fire service walked them to a nearby farm and requested our assistance to transport them from there. However, a local farmer was very kindly able to help out and transported them to our RV-point – many thanks to her!
Although they were both cold and wet they declined our offer of medical assessment, stating they were fine. But by then they were stranded from their vehicle so we drove them to Gribdale carpark to reunite them with it. Twelve Cleveland MRT personnel were involved for approximately 2.25-hours by the time we had dropped off the two men.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
