TUESDAY 23RD JULY 2024 (1618 HOURS)
A call towards the southern part of our area this afternoon. We were requested by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist one of their crews dealing with a young man who had been injured after a quad bike overturned on land near to Hawnby village, north-west of Helmsley. A Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter was also en route.
One Team Land Rover and a number of Team members were deployed to an RV-point in the village. The first members there then headed off to the casualty’s location to liaise with the paramedics. They were joined by other members as they arrived. Assessment and treatment had been undertaken by the paramedics, so from our point of view it was a relatively simple task to carry the young man on a ’scoop stretcher’ a short distance to the helicopter. Once loaded, he was flown to hospital for treatment. We wish him well for his recovery.
Fourteen Cleveland MRT volunteers were involved, although a few were stood down en route once it became clear that we could manage without their assistance. The incident lasted just over two-hours by the time our Team vehicle was back at Base ready for the next call!
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
