Ambulance Assistance – Errington Woods

SUNDAY 21ST JULY 2024 (1607 HOURS)

Whilst we were already dealing with a call-out on the Moors (see 30/2024), we were called by the North East Ambulance Service to a report of a teenage mountain biker in Errington Woods, near New Marske. He had sustained a shoulder injury (and potentially other injuries) following an accident.

One Land Rover crew and other personnel were diverted from the earlier call-out and were instead directed to an RV-point at the east of Errington Woods, together with additional members who had since become available. Our Call-out Officer was in contact with a NEAS crew member at the scene to discuss the casualty’s condition and to confirm his location.

Upon arrival we lifted the casualty onto a mountain rescue stretcher and secured him within a Vacuum Mattress and Casualty Bag. We then set up a back-up rope system to safety carry the casualty for approximately 10-metres up a fairly steep slope to the main track. He was then carried for just over 1-Km to the waiting ambulance to transport him to hospital.

Nineteen Team members were deployed to this call-out which lasted for approximately 2.75-hours.
