Air Ambulance Assistance – Bloworth Crossing

SUNDAY 21ST JULY 2024 (1539 HOURS)

Called by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to a report of an off-road motorcyclist with upper body injuries following an accident near to Bloworth Crossing on the North York Moors approximately 4-Km south-east of Clay Bank carpark.

Both Team Land Rovers and a number of Team members were deployed to an RV-point at Bank Foot at the bottom of the climb up to the casualty site. Our Call-out Officer spoke to one of the casualty’s companions by phone, who was helpful in confirming his friend’s condition.

Whilst our personnel were being ferried up to the site in the Land Rovers, we received a second call-out to Errington Woods, near Marske (see 31/2024 below). As we were starting to divert some personnel who had not arrived at the Bank Foot RV to the Errington call-out, we were relieved to find out that a Yorkshire Air Ambulance had just arrived to deal with the motorcyclist. Whilst one Land Rover crew remained to assist with that casualty, the other one and all other personnel were diverted to Errington Woods.

The motorcyclist was eventually walked to the helicopter which then flew him down to a field near to our RV-point where he was transferred to a YAS ambulance for onward treatment at hospital. Many thanks to the farmer for his help with access to the field.

Fourteen Team members had initially been deployed but this was reduced to six upon the arrival of the helicopter – so many thanks to them, their arrival was very timely!
