SATURDAY 1ST JUNE 2024 (1601 HOURS)
After an early morning request to support Swaledale MRT with a search for a missing person (who was sadly found deceased before we deployed), later in the day we received a request from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to help with an injured mountain biker near to Leven Viaduct. The NEAS Hazardous Area Response Team, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade also attended.
NEAS dealt with the casualty’s injuries whilst we were asked to gain access to the scene using Team Land Rovers to extract him. He was placed onto one of our rescue stretchers, secured within one of the Land Rovers and transported for approximately 1-Km to the roadside, where he was then transferred to a waiting ambulance. We wish him well for his recovery.
Twenty-four Cleveland MRT members made themselves available. Most were held at various standby points around the area in case needed, with eleven of them being used for the recovery and handover to the ambulance. The incident lasted for approximately 2.5-hours by the time we had returned to Base and onto homes etc.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
