Saturday October 14th 1700hrs. We were asked by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist with an injured walker in a wooded area North of Helmsley. The male walker, who was in his 50s, was part of a walking group from Hull when he slipped and hurt his leg. Due to the rough terrain the ambulance crew were unable to carry him to their vehicle and asked for our help.
Twelve of the Team responded to the callout and were able to reach the incident site in one of our Landrover ambulances and transport the injured man around half a kilometre along forestry tracks to the waiting ambulance. The incident lasted around 90 minutes.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
