THURSDAY 28TH DECEMBER 2023
The Team was contacted by North Yorkshire Police during the afternoon to assist with a report of a car in flood waters on the River Esk near Glaisdale. Other emergency services attended including the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and a Coastguard Helicopter.
After liaising with the other services, Cleveland MRT members were deployed to search the river banks but were later stood-down when NRFRS found three bodies in the vehicle. Fifteen of our members were deployed for just under 4-hours.
Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. North Yorkshire Police released this statement.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
