Earlier this year Cleveland MRT formed an Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity group to address a number of factors ranging from how we recruit and train our people (to encourage a wider range of candidates more representative of the local community), how we interact with people outside the Team including with minority groups, routes to leadership and a whole host of other issues.
One of our members, who sits on the national ‘Women in Mountain Rescue’ group, attended Kendal Mountain Film Festival where North Face launched a ‘Race and Allyship’ toolkit they have produced. The toolkit is free to use and may be of interest to anyone who is involved in the great outdoors either professionally or as a pastime. It is an online and takes about 30-40 minutes to complete – and you also get a certificate at the end!
So if you can spare a bit of time it may be of interest; our members report that it is well worth doing. Click here to start.
Our EDI group has gradually been bringing forward a number of ideas, such as the toolkit, as part of the process of updating the rest of our members with the group’s current thinking and proposals, so we expect to be further embedding the theme of equality, diversity and inclusion within the culture of the Team over the coming months as we also develop a new Cleveland MRT Strategic Plan in 2024.

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
