Ambulance assistance – Saltburn

MONDAY 7TH AUGUST 2023 (0918 HOURS)

We were contacted by the North East Ambulance Service regarding a woman who had sustained a lower right-leg injury after sliding on a muddy path in the valley area of Saltburn near Rush Pool. A number of Team members were sent, some via our Base to collect Team Land Rovers and some direct to the scene, two of whom were fairly local so they soon met up with the NEAS crew dealing with the casualty. We provided a vacuum splint to stabilise the injury and when ready the casualty was placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried downhill for a short distance. Once on level ground, a wheel was attached to the stretcher to wheel her for approximately 250-metres to the ambulance.

This was the first call-out on which we have used one of our recently purchased vacuum splints. Just one example of the type of equipment that is funded entirely by the many generous donations received by the Team throughout the year, all with the intention of enhancing casualty care.

Thirteen Team members were involved both at the scene and coordinating our response to the incident which lasted approximately 1.45-hours, plus further time back at our Base cleaning the rescue equipment which had become quite muddy due to the recent rain!
