SUNDAY 12TH MARCH 2023 (1126 HOURS)
After a quiet couple of weeks we received a request from the North East Ambulance Service to go to the aid of a walker who had sustained a leg injury after falling on mud in Newton Wood, to the south of Roseberry Topping. As it was fairly close to our Base we initially deployed everyone there and shuttled the first few groups to a forward control point using our two Land Rovers. A passer-by who had remained with the casualty was able to provide good information to our call-out officer regarding the casualty’s condition and her location.
Two of the first Team members to arrive at the control point made their way on foot carrying with them a medical bag and other equipment and, after assessing her injuries, they provided pain relief prior to immobilising her leg. Once other members arrived she was packaged inside a casualty bag to keep warm before being carried on a rescue stretcher for approximately 500-metres and then handed into the care of the waiting ambulance crew. We wish her well for her recovery.
Many thanks to the passer-by who remained with the casualty and to everyone at Aireyholme farm for their continued support of the Team by providing access across their land and car-parking for our members. Nineteen team members were involved for approximately 2.5-hours plus return travel time back to members’ homes and to our Base – there was a lot of mud to clean off vehicles, equipment and clothing!
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
