Volunteers from across the region and beyond were in our area on the weekend of 12th / 13th November 2022 on an Extended Skills Casualty Care refresher course. Many Mountain Rescue members are trained to ‘Casualty Care’ level but a smaller number undertake ‘extended skills’ training. This enables them to administer a wider range of controlled drugs and to carry out advanced techniques such as canulation. Two Cleveland MRT members were on the course accompanied by more of our members who were assisting as medical experts or acting as ‘casualties’ (alongside colleagues from other Teams).
A wide range of MR and cave rescue organisations were represented, including Teams drawn from the North East Search and Rescue Association plus Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team and even a few from the Lake District area. All giving up their free time to maintain their casualty care skills or to help their colleagues in doing so. Many happy hours were spent laid down or kneeling down in the bracken on Carlton Bank. The training never stops!
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
