THURSDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER 2022
We were contacted in the morning by our colleagues at Scarborough & Ryedale MRT with a request to assist them in a search for a vulnerable missing man in the Sleights area. They had been deployed the previous evening at the request of North Yorkshire Police and asked for our support when the search resumed in daylight. HM Coastguard were also involved.
Cleveland MRT members were sent along with three of our vehicles, carrying a quantity of water rescue equipment as the search area included a section of the River Esk. We also searched nearby areas of land as requested. After clearing the areas allocated to us without result the Team was stood-down by the Police this afternoon and all members returned to our Base and/or their homes and places of work.
Ten Cleveland MRT members were directly involved in the search, supported by our Communications Officer operating from our Incident Control Vehicle at Sleights and our Call-out Officer co-ordinating the initial response from home. The call-out lasted approximately 8-hours including travel time.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
