MONDAY 8TH AUGUST 2022 (1309 HOURS)
The Yorkshire Ambulance Service contacted the Team regarding a woman who had fallen and sustained a lower leg injury whilst walking near to the old shooting lodge below Roseberry Topping. Team members were alerted and headed to an RV-point at a nearby farm whilst others went to our Base to collect the rescue Land Rovers.
However, just over 10-minutes later we managed to make contact with the casualty by phone – some friends had helped her down the paths and they were intending to transport her to hospital. One of our Land Rover crews met her at Newton carpark (below Roseberry Topping). They gave her pain relief and splinted her ankle before her friends took her to hospital for further checks and treatment.
All other Team members were stood-down and returned to work and homes etc. In addition to the three members who deployed to the carpark another 12 were en route when stood-down by our call-out officer. The call-out lasted less than 3/4 hour.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
