Rescue – Egton High Moor

FRIDAY 24TH JUNE 2022

We received a request from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to go to the assistance of a man who had fallen and sustained potential back and shoulder injuries whilst walking on Egton High Moor between Rosedale and Egton Bridge.

We deployed two Land Rovers containing a total of five people from our Base plus two other members who all made their way in their own vehicles. We also contacted our colleagues in Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT) as the location was on the border between the two teams. They also deployed a crewed Team vehicle and additional personnel in their cars.

Upon arrival of the first SRMRT personnel they commenced an initial assessment before being joined by Cleveland MRT members and the YAS ambulance. After initial assessment the casualty was secured in one of our vacuum mattresses and carried a short distance to the waiting ambulance for onward treatment at hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.

Following on from our last call-out a few days ago, where we worked alongside the Coastguard, this was another good example of inter-agency joint working and a good opportunity to meet some of our neighbours from SRMRT.

Seven Cleveland MRT members were involved, co-ordinated by our call-out officer from home. The incident lasted approximately 2.75 hours, including return travel time.
