TUESDAY 21ST JUNE 2022 (1857 HOURS)
At the request of the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) we deployed to the Cleveland Way along a coastal section just west of Boulby, to a report of a walker who had sustained a leg injury.
One of our rescue Land Rovers was already out on a driver training session so the crew was dispatched immediately and one of our Extended Skills Casualty Carers headed directly there from home. Our other Land Rover crew was then sent along with a number of other Team members who turned out from their homes etc. In view of the coastal path location we also contacted the Coastguard who attended.
In the meantime our call-out officer phoned the casualty’s daughter, who was with her, to verify the location and to check on the lady’s condition.
On arrival in Boulby it soon became a joint rescue with ourselves, the Coastguard and NEAS all working alongside each other. After treatment at the scene the lady was placed on a stretcher and carried back towards Boulby where she was transferred to an ambulance for onward treatment at hospital. We wish her well for a full recovery.
Twenty-two Cleveland MRT members were involved (or en route when stood-down before arriving), initially co-ordinated by our call-out officer from home. The incident lasted approximately 2.75 hours, including return travel time.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
