SUNDAY 19TH JUNE 2022 (1322 HOURS)
At the request of North Yorkshire Police we deployed to an area on the North York Moors, near Ellers Wood, approximately 3-miles north of Hawnby to a report of a member of a walking party who, having fallen, had sustained a hip injury and was unable to stand.
Two rescue Land Rovers were dispatched along with other Team members travelling separately in their own cars towards an RV-point on the Osmotherley to Hawnby road. Having met up with some of the casualty’s party, Team members walked to his location whilst one Land Rover was driven on a longer, wider route along off-road tracks to get as near to him as possible.
After treatment by Team members he was carried on a rescue stretcher, then loaded into one of the Land Rovers and transported to an ambulance dispatched by YAS waiting at the nearest road point. It proved to be a lengthy and completed extraction route owing to various obstructions on the way.
Fifteen Cleveland MRT members were deployed, initially co-ordinated by our call-out officer from home. It lasted for approximately 5.5 hours, including return travel time.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
