Search – Carlton Bank

SUNDAY 5TH JUNE 2022

North Yorkshire Police contacted us on Sunday evening to help search the Carlton Bank area for a missing person.

Having established a control point near Lordstones our volunteer Team members were split into four teams and allocated various search areas as agreed with the police. Weather conditions were poor due to a mixture of limited visibility in fog and heavy rain. We also requested support from ‘Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England’ resulting in two handlers and their dogs assisting in the search – one each from Swaledale MRT and Teesdale and Weardale Search & MRT.

Three hours after being called we were stood-down by the police as the missing person had thankfully been found safe and well at another location. All Team members were recalled to the control point and after a debrief made their way home, with some taking our three vehicles back to Base. Twenty-three Cleveland MRT members plus the two dogs & their handlers were involved with another one coordinating our response from home. Taking into account travelling time the call-out lasted just over four-hours.

Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.

Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
