Rescue – Roseberry Topping

MONDAY 30TH MAY 2022 (1210 HOURS)

Just after midday, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) requested that we attend to a female walker who had fallen near to Roseberry Topping sustaining a painful injury to her lower right-leg.

Two double-crewed Land Rovers were deployed with one heading to an RV-point at Aireyholme Farm near Great Ayton. The other continued via the farm up towards the small ‘shooting lodge’ below Roseberry Topping. From a What3Words location (received via YAS) the casualty was believed to be on a grass slope just below the shooting lodge. This was then confirmed by our call-out officer who called her to check on her condition and to let her know that help was on the way. The first two Team members were then soon with her.

Other Team members arrived and were joined by a YAS rapid response paramedic. We stabilised the injury to her lower right-leg and provided pain relief. She was then ‘packaged’ in a vacuum mattress and lifted onto a rescue stretcher to be carried approximately 200-metres up to our Land Rover, transported down to the farm and then transferred to the waiting ambulance. We wish her well for a speedy recovery.

Many thanks to all at Aireyholme Farm for parking and access across their land. Thanks also to the passing family who stopped to assist the casualty before our arrival.

Sixteen Team members were involved with another one coordinating our response from home. The call-out lasted just over 1.5 hours plus travelling time back to work, homes and our Base.
