Air Ambulance Assistance – Kirby Knowle

SUNDAY 1st MAY 2022 (1145 HOURS)

It turned out to a very busy weekend for the Team. Following call-outs on both Friday and Saturday and also covering the the English Championship Fell Race on Saturday, we were hoping for a quiet Sunday for our annual Whalebones Walk (from Whitby to Marske). However, we ended up dealing with two more call-outs whilst also covering the walk. This was the first of those two:

North Yorkshire Police informed us of a man with potentially serious injuries resulting from a mountain bike accident near to Kirby Knowle, Thirsk.

One Team member was sent from the Northallerton area to an RV-point in the village to act as the incident officer whilst a Team Land Rover was sent from our Base, with other members travelling from across our area. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also sent and on arrival their crew dealt with the casualty before we carried him on a rescue stretcher to the helicopter for onward treatment at hospital. We wish him well for his recovery.

Many thanks to the local farmers for access across their land.

Fifteen Team Members were involved plus two others coordinating the response whilst engaged on the Whalebones Walk. The call-out lasted approximately 2.5 hours plus additional return travelling time.
