We were alerted, by NorthEast Ambulance control, to an injured 13 year old motorcycle scrambler on the motorcycle tracks at Slapewath near Guisborough and asked if we could assist the Great Northeast Air Ambulance crew. The injured boy, who was from the local area, was riding with members of his family when he came off his bike and injured his leg. He was initially treated by the crew of the air ambulance who needed help in getting the boy to the waiting ambulance due to the very steep ground. 14 volunteers from the rescue team attended the incident and carried the boy around 200m to the waiting ambulance on their specialised mountain rescue stretcher. The incident lasted just over an hour.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
