Ambulance Assistance – Eston Nab

SUNDAY 27TH FEBRUARY 2022 (1711 HOURS)

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) asked us to assist one of their crews attending to a report of a male who had fallen from a motorcycle and injured his ankle at the top of Eston Nab.

Shortly after our first Land Rover crew had met up with the NEAS crew, more of our Team members then began to arrive on scene. They assisted with treatment including the provision of pain relief for a suspected fracture / dislocation of the casualty’s left ankle. After treatment he was lifted onto a rescue stretcher, secured within a vacuum mattress and wrapped in a casualty bag to keep warm, as by then the temperature had dropped in a strong wind. He was then carried to the waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

Twenty-two Team Members were initially deployed co-ordinated remotely by our call-out officer. A few others were available to assist although they were stood-down before arrival, with sufficient numbers already present. The incident lasted approximately 1.75 hours plus return travel time back to Base and homes.
