SUNDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 2022 (1233 HOURS)
After a few quiet weeks we received out first call-out of the month when the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) asked us to assist one of their crews dealing with an injured walker on a coastal path near Marske.
Once the first of our Land Rovers arrived, Team members walked a few hundred metres to the scene carrying their equipment. The NEAS crew had been treating the woman for a knee injury and once they were ready she was lifted onto our stretcher, secured in a vacuum mattress and wrapped in a casualty bag to keep warm (the weather was very wet and windy). She was then carried back to the roadside and transferred to the ambulance.
Twenty-one Team Members were deployed for approximately 1.5 hours plus return travel time back to Base and homes (although a few were stood-down before arrival as we had sufficient numbers present).
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
