Now that the Ard Moors mountain bike event is over for another year, we would like to say a very big ‘thank you’ to the many, many people who donated to the Team via our collection tins & buckets or who bought items from our display stand.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity of riders and their families & friends and also those passers-by who were out walking in the area. Their donations and purchases totalled an amazing £832.40 which will rise to over £1,000 when Gift Aid is taken into account. A further £30 was donated via an earlier Facebook post.
It was great to see the Ard Moors back after missing out last year. We received lots of positive comments about the work of the Team. Everyone seemed to be really appreciative and were impressed by the support provided over the two days, whether they made use of our casualty care services or not, and this was reflected by the very generous donations of the competitors and many others. We treated eleven riders over the two-days – mainly for shoulder injuries plus some hand / wrist injuries but thankfully, apart from one or two breaks and dislocations, nothing too serious. Thanks to those riders who have since expressed their gratitude on social media!
And finally, thanks go to our many S&R members who turned out for the two days and to our Support members who collected all the money and promoted our role.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
