Incident – Ambulance Request Saltburn

FRIDAY 18TH JUNE 2021 (2241 HOURS)

We were contacted by the North East Ambulance Service to assist two ambulance crews dealing with a young male who was reported as being unconscious near Saltburn, approximately half-a-mile along a track (hence the need for our assistance).

One Team member headed for our Base to collect a Land Rover whilst ten others were preparing to deploy direct from home. However, within approximately 15-minutes the casualty had recovered sufficiently enough that the NEAS crews could get him to an ambulance without needing our assistance. So it was back to bed for those who had already retired for the night!

A call-out is only recorded when Team members are actually deployed (and at least one Team vehicle leaves our Base). If we are stood-down before deployment – as in this case – we do not class that as a ‘call-out’. Instead it is separately listed as a miscellaneous ‘incident’. 

This was the 12th ‘incident’ of 2021. Others this year have included being on standby due to weather problems and to assist or advise other emergency services (e.g. a Police request to trace a missing person via the mountain rescue Phone Find facility).
