Search – Errington Wood, New Marske

FRIDAY 21ST MAY 2021 (0715 HOURS)

A relatively early walk in the woods for some Team members after we were contacted by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) at 0715 hours to search for a reportedly injured woman. The ambulance crew had been unable to locate her. She had earlier telephoned NEAS to report that she had fallen in Errington Wood and although she was believed to be with a small group of people she could no longer be contacted via mobile phone to clarify the location.

After arriving at the RV-point, to the western end of the woods near to New Marske, Team members commenced searches of the woods. After approximately three-hours of searching we were advised that Cleveland Police had traced the woman to her home, safe and well after apparently ‘self recovering’ from the area. At that point our volunteer Team members were able to return to the RV-point for a debrief before travelling home for a very late breakfast – or should that be an early lunch? After cleaning the Team vehicles, equipment and their own clothing of course.

Many thanks go to the Redcar & Cleveland Council Countryside Rangers for their support with access to the land and checking various locations and to members of the public who were walking in the area and passed on useful information about paths they had walked.

Fourteen Cleveland MRT members were involved for approximately 4.75 hours (including return travel, decontamination & cleaning).
