The Co-op Community Fund closed on Saturday 24th October after 12 months. Our supporters raised well over £5,000 from their shopping at a number of Co-op stores across our region (and beyond!) and together with a bonus from the Co-op we are going to receive £10.991.37. This is a massive and very welcome donation and on behalf of everyone at Cleveland Mountain Rescue a big thank you to everyone at the Co-op Community Fund and the many supporters who chose us as their charity to support via their shopping.
The Co-op donation is being used to support our Water and Flood Rescue training. This year, despite the Covid-19 Pandemic, nine of our volunteers
have completed their 3-day revalidation course to remain as Swiftwater Rescue Technicians (SRT) and one volunteer completed his four day initial SRT course. These photographs are from our SRT revalidation course held in October 2020 where the focus was on water rescues using rafts and technical rescues using ropes and rafts.
We have plans, subject to further Covid-19 restrictions, to organise a refresher course for our Water First Responders and a two day course for our volunteers who wish to become First Responders.
ClevelandMRT is registered with DEFRA as a Type C Water Rescue Team and our volunteers are always on standby to respond to water incidents across our patch and to respond to flooding incidents both locally and further afield. The generous Co-op donation enables us to keep our volunteers trained and qualified to provide this important community service.
Thank you to the Co-op and again to all of you who have donated!
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
