Tuesday 27th October 2020. We were contacted by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to assist them with a man who had reportedly been taken ill whilst walking on Scarth Wood Moor near to Cod Beck Reservoir, just north of Osmotherley.
One of our Land Rover Ambulances and a number of Team members were deployed together with North Yorkshire Police officers and a Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter. Just as the first of our volunteers arrived at the location, very sadly the man was declared deceased and our presence was no longer necessary. Our thoughts go to the man’s family, friends and to all those present at the time.
Sixteen Team members were either at the scene or en route plus one other co-ordinating our response remotely. Our involvement lasted approximately one hour.
Applications can be made to join the team in a support role (Operational Support) or as a hill going (Search and Rescue) member.
Applications for either role can be made at any time. Intakes for Operational Support members occur at various times of the year. There is one annual intake for Search and Rescue normally each September.
